We are back at the Silverstone classic on the 26th 27th and 28th of July 2019. It was the end of the Thundersports season. 41 cars were entered on a very large Thundersports grid. Testing on Thursday was red hot with 36.2 degrees in the afternoon session. Qualifying took place Friday morning, with Dean forward in the McLaren M8F qualifying second after only doing 3 laps before an oil belt went! Jamie came 18th in the Chevron B19 in his first outing in the car. Understandably he has a lot to learn!
This was a short sprint race lasting only 25mintues on the Saturday morning. Unfortunately, it was pouring down and the spectators had to put their umbrellas up and wrap up. Jamie didn’t see much of the race because of the spray, but went well! He started in 18th position and finished 11th overall and 3rd in class. Even with the unfortunate weather Jamie was pleased with the result! Even more with Dean in the mighty McLaren M8F, as he took the lead and won by an easy 6 seconds, over the Big Lola 2310. Dean also got the fastest lap. Great day for the team. A very Large Trophy was awarded to Dean, and a little glass trophy for Jamie coming 3rd in class but a very proud one as first-time racing in the Chevron B19.
Sunday morning, we started on the grid with Jamie 11th and Dean on poll. The track was wet but drying! The start went well, but Dean lost the lead in the first corner before re-taking the lead on the first lap and starting to build a comfy lead! Unfortunately, a belt jumped on the water pump and forced the McLaren into retirement. Jamie kept going for the full 40 minutes of the race in the Chevron B19, in what were very tricky conditions, with the track being dry and the tyres wet! Jamie managed to finish 12th in the race, and again was pleased with the result.
Overall what a great weekend with a massive win for Dean Forward in the McLaren M8F coming 1st in race number 1 and Jamie with his first time racing the Chevron B19 coming 3rd in class! Successful end to the season.
